Five presentation crimes that lose your audience

David Francis, . 2 min read.

Most presentations fail before the first slide lands. They fail in the structure, the delivery, and the story. Here are the five crimes committed most often, and how to fix them.

1. Reading your slides. Looking over your shoulder kills the connection. Drill it until it sounds off the cuff.

2. Filling your slides with words. Minimum 30 point. Maximum six words. If they are reading, you have lost them. Use visuals to amplify the point.

3. Leading with your product. Introduce the villain first. The villain is the problem you solve. Make them feel the pain before the hero arrives.

4. Thinking people care about your product. Nobody wants a drill. They want a hole. Sell the outcome. Replace your "about us" slide with a customer story.

5. Finishing with a thank you slide. The last slide is prime real estate. End on your strongest point and a clear call to action.

WIIFM: what's in it for me?
